Feeling seen in birth.
Deep listening is about more than hearing words. It’s about presence, attunement, and noticing what’s needed in the moment.
During labour, many needs are communicated non-verbally — through body language, breath, tone, or energy. Feeling truly listened to can reduce stress, support decision-making, and increase emotional safety (Beck, 2004).
As a doula, deep listening allows me to support you in ways that feel intuitive and responsive. Sometimes that means reassurance. Sometimes silence. Sometimes practical comfort or guidance for your partner.
I also support birth partners to listen deeply. Many want to help but feel unsure how. With guidance, they learn to respond with confidence rather than panic or guesswork.
Being deeply listened to sends a powerful message to the body: you are safe. And safety is foundational to labour.
Birth doesn’t need fixing — it needs witnessing.
If you want support that truly listens and responds to you, I’d love to connect.
